Every year, we run a series of fundraising events to support our VOKRA kitties. Our Walk for the Kitties is the major fundraising event; we depend on it for crucial operating funds.
This year, we thought we’d introduce you to a number of the kitties that have been helped by VOKRA. We’re not just about kittens! We take care of the unwanted and homeless cats of the Lower Mainland, no matter their age or their condition. Every cat deserves a loving home, and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that happens.
You can help!
- CHOOSE YOUR KITTY
This year we’d like you to meet some of kitties that VOKRA has helped. Each one represents a different aspect of VOKRA’s work.
Read their stories below and choose the kitty that you’d like to walk for! Who do you connect with? - REGISTER
Let us know that you’re walking for the kitties. And which team you’ll belong to!
At the walk, you’ll receive a t-shirt and a swag bag.
If you want to walk as a team, we’d love that, but you’ll need to register individually so that we can get the correct details on t-shirt size, etc. - GATHER DONATIONS
Ask your friends to support you in walking for the kitties.
There’s a few simple ways to do this:
- Set up your own CanadaHelps Giving Page. Sometimes it’s hard to ask for money in person, but you can make it easy for your friends to support you by creating a Giving Page. Follow these instructions or email alannah.hall@vokra.ca and we’ll create a Giving Page for you!
- Use a paper form and collect pledges. Make sure you gather addresses so that we can issue tax receipts for anything over $20. - WALK
Come join us for the walk – rain or shine!
You’ll meet other people who, like you, are dedicated to the care of homeless cats and kittens in the Lower Mainland.
Can’t make it to the walk? Donate using our secure, online system. Designate your donation to “Walk for the Kitties”. - CELEBRATE
Congratulate yourself on doing a good thing.
Know that a cat or kitten today is receiving help that could only be supplied through your generosity.
Choose Your Kitty for the Walk
We’d like to introduce you to some of the cats and kittens that VOKRA has helped over the years. These are just 6 of the more than 8,000 we’ve saved since 2000. They all have a tale to tell. Read them over and think about which one of these kitties you’d like to walk for. Whose story speaks to you?

Tubbs is a lovely 5 year old cat that came to us recently from Burnaby. Tubbs is FIV positive (a cat disease that affects his immune system), so he’ll needa little extra help in his life and a special someone to care for him.

Darla is representative of one of the many teenage moms that we take in every year. Darla came from a multi-cat situation that had gotten out of control and was almost hairless from fleas. VOKRA provides a supportive environment for our feline moms. Darla had 6 adorable kittens, now all adopted. Darla is still looking for her forever home. Sometimes the nicest kitties are overlooked because of their colour.

Now that you’ve chosen the kitty you’re going to walk for, REGISTER the Walk for the Kitties…
Questions?
What if we want to walk as a team?
That would be great! Please register individually, though, so that we can make sure we get you the right size t-shirt, etc. Post a comment on our Walk for the Kitties Facebook page and challenge other teams to beat your totals!
What if I want to walk for another kitty – for instance, my kitty?
We have some activities at the Walk planned around the 8 main teams, but it’s important to recognize that connection and why you’re walking. Why not put your kitty’s story on your GivingPage for your supporters to see or post a comment on the Walk for the Kitties Facebook page.
Are there sponsorship opportunities available?
Yes, there are! Contact msaran@vokra.ca for details.
