VOKRA's 2nd Annual Feline Festival & Walk For the Kitties is on August 21st and we need your help to make it an even bigger success than last year's!

At our 2010 Walk, VOKRA supporters like you raised over $25,000.

Can you help us to raise even more this year?

If you would like to participate, please Join the Event on Facebook or Send Us an Email to danias@vokra.ca.

1. To gather donations in person, click here to download our Walk Donations Form.

OR

2. Create Your Own Giving Page. Many of us don't like asking people for money in person.

CanadaHelps GIVING PAGES are an easy, secure, comfortable way to ask others for their support in your Walk for the Kitties.

To create a GIVING PAGE, click here and follow the simple instructions.

Donations sent using your Giving Page will be directly deposited to VOKRA, and donors will automatically be issued a tax receipt.

IF YOU'D LIKE HELP WITH MAKING A GIVING PAGE, EMAIL DANIA AND SHE WILL CREATE ONE FOR YOU! :)

Watch Arthur's and Angus's Story

dsheldon | February 6, 2011

Angus and Arthur are two very brave and forgiving brother cats. Angus is pictured below with Maria.

Watch their story on "VOKRA TV":

VOKRA is grateful to Vancouver Gold for making us one of the charities they support.

If you have old gold (and diamonds over 1/4 carat), Vancouver Gold will give you the market value, PLUS they will donate 10% of the total amount to VOKRA.

That's right ... you receive the full amount and Vancouver Gold donates to us on your behalf.

You can have calendars delivered, accompanied by a Gift Card, by Christmas (for local orders) if you have your order in by Monday, December 20th.

Come on out for the last two days of Santa pics at our two Petsmart locations. We are also able to answer questions about any of the cats in the adoption centers at the stores. 11 to 4, Sat. and Sun.

The Grandview Vancouver store will have another bake sale. This was highly successful in North Van last week ... lots of home baked goodies and a lovely gingerbread house looking for a home! Our 2011 calendars, tshirts and bracelets will also be available at both stores. Come on out!

Here is one of our more amazing pics from last week. Took a lot of patience and fast camera clicking...

A note from Shelley.... "A group of about 6 people came in. Each kitty had their own carrier. They all own kitties and thought that it would be a great thing to do with the cats and their friends! It was hilarious, they plopped them all down at the front of the line and proceeded to take them out one at a time.

Everyone put their own kitty on the platform. We all held on a then ran for it when we thought we could! Some of them hissed at each other while they were waiting next to each other, as most of them don't know each other. The owners were cool, calm, just really enjoying the whole experience. Out with their best friends, wanting to do photos with their favorite animals, and going to make it an event!! They stayed for probably an hour! It definitely was the highlight of my day."

Make the New Year Safer For Your Pets

dsheldon | December 15, 2010

We recognize the importance of having First Aid knowledge for human medical emergencies, but how about for our feline and canine family members?

Many of us forget that in spite of their excellent natural instincts, cats and dogs can get into accidents, ingest poisons, step on sharp objects, and experience other harmful mishaps. Will you know what to do if your cat suddenly is injured or acutely ill and you cannot immediately get professional veterinary help?

Fortunately, certified pet first aid instruction is available locally. VOKRA is proud to be a supporter of Walks 'N' Wags Certified Pet First Aid, located right here in Vancouver.

Several of VOKRA's volunteers have taken the Walks 'N' Wags' classroom training and found it very informative and beneficial. And if a Pet First Aid course isn't available in your area, or you cannot attend classes for another reason, they have a distance learning option.

So, although I'm not a big fan of New Years Resolutions, this is one I can get behind 100%. You can register individually, or if you're interested in getting together with like-minded cat folks to have a private group session, send me (Dania) an email: danias@vokra.ca.

The second weekend of our Photos With Santa continues at PetSmart in North Vancouver and at Grandview in Vancouver.

This is the first year we've had a bake sale, and as the pic above shows, the response has been great! We still have goodies at the North Vancouver location, so come out with your furry kids, get a picture with Santa, hang out with our fun elves, and nibble on sweet stuff.

How did it get to be the first week of December? We don't know either, except that 2010 has been a blur of kittens and cats like we have never seen before.

To get into the proverbial Christmas Spirit, VOKRA is having our annual Photos With Santa events, hosted by PetSmart in North Vancouver and on Grandview Highway. All proceeds go to VOKRA kitties!

DATES:December 4 and 5, 11 and 12, 18 and 19

HOURS: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LOCATIONS:

PetSmart North Vancouver, 1325 Main Street

PetSmart Grandview Highway, 2860 Bentall Street (at Grandview Highway)

2011 Calendars, t-shirts and other goodies will be on sale to support VOKRA

If you'd like to volunteer on one or more of these days, please contact Kim or Shelley, kimr@vokra.ca, shelleydowson@gmail.com
